Well, let me tell you about this here thing, this… uh… “alternanthera reineckii mini” tissue culture. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it ain’t nothin’ but a little red plant for your fish tank, you know, the one with the water and the fishes swimmin’ around.
What it is, this “mini” thing?
They call it “mini” ’cause it don’t grow too big, see? Like, maybe eight inches tall, if you’re lucky. And it’s red, real red, like a rooster’s comb, pretty-like. Folks put it in them tanks, them… aquariums, they call ’em, to make it look nice. Like a little underwater garden, I reckon.

This here “tissue culture” part, well, that just means they grow it in some jelly stuff, not dirt. It’s clean, they say, no bugs or nothin’ on it. That’s good, I guess, nobody wants bugs in their fish tank, right?
- It’s small, real small. Good for little tanks.
- It’s red. Real pretty red, like I said.
- Clean, no bugs. Grown in jelly stuff, not dirt.
Where to put it in your tank?
Now, where you put this little red plant, that’s up to you. You can put it in the front, so you see it real good. Or in the middle, kinda like a bush. Or even in the back, if you want. It don’t care much, long as it gets some light. But not too much light! And keep it clean, or that green slimy stuff, what they call algae, will grow all over it, and then it won’t be so pretty no more. Them little red plants, they grow real slow, so you gotta watch out for that green stuff. It’ll choke ‘em out faster than you can say “Jack Robinson.” And that’s a fact.
Growing it and spreading it around
If you want more of these little red plants, you can just snip off a piece and stick it in the… you know… the stuff at the bottom of the tank, the… gravel, yeah, that’s it. And it’ll grow, just like that. Magic, I tell ya! But like I said before, slow growin’ and easy for that nasty algae to get ‘em. You gotta be on your toes, you do.
Why folks like it
Them city folk, they like these little red plants. They put ‘em in their tanks and make it all fancy-like. They call it… “aquascaping.” Sounds like a lot of work to me, but they seem to like it. Says it makes the fishes happy. I don’t know about that, fishes is fishes, they don’t care about no plants, I reckon. But it does look kinda nice, I gotta admit. Like a little underwater world, all red and green and…fishy.
Keeping it clean, that’s the hard part
The hardest part of keeping this here little red plant is keeping it clean. That green slimy stuff, algae, like I said before, it’s always tryin’ to take over. You gotta keep the tank clean, and don’t give it too much light. Too much light and the algae goes wild. It’s a fight, you see? A fight between the red plant and the green slime. And you gotta help the red plant win, or it’ll just disappear under all that green gunk. And nobody wants that. You paid good money for that little red plant, you don’t want it covered in slime.
So there you have it. This “alternanthera reineckii mini” tissue culture. A little red plant for your fish tank. Pretty, ain’t it? But you gotta take care of it, or it won’t last long. Just like anything else in this world, I guess. You gotta work for what you want, even if it’s just a little red plant in a fish tank.
