So, I came across this thing called “Lee Community Healthcare” the other day and, let me tell you, it’s been quite the ride figuring it all out. I figured I’d share my little adventure, might be useful for someone else out there.
First off, I started digging around to see what this Lee Community Healthcare is all about. Turns out, it’s part of Lee Health, which is like this big hospital system down in Southwest Florida. But here’s the kicker, it’s a not-for-profit. Means they don’t pay taxes, but they also don’t get any of our tax money. Pretty interesting, right?
Then I went on to check out where these guys are located. They’ve got places in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Lehigh Acres. That is pretty convenient, they are all over the place! Seems like they are really trying to reach out to the community in these areas.

Next, I tried to understand how they are actually making a difference. I found out that they are considered as a “trusted partner”, and I saw this piece about a guy named Chris Simoneau talking about how Lee Health is doing some good work in Southwest Florida. It got me thinking, they must be doing something right if people are talking about them.
Then, I found something about this “Partners in Wellness” program. It’s like they are giving a shoutout to other organizations and communities that are all about that healthy living. Seems like they’re not just about fixing people up when they’re sick, but also about keeping them healthy in the first place.
Here’s where it gets even more interesting. The people of Lee County actually own and run Lee Health. They do it through some elected Board of Directors. It’s like the community is really in charge of their own healthcare, which is pretty cool if you ask me.
And get this, Lee Health is also part of this bigger group called the Alliance Network, with 13 other hospitals around the country. But, even with this, Lee Health and the Cleveland Clinic are still their own bosses. No one’s taking over or anything.
