Today, I will share how I made liquid culture for growing mushrooms. It’s really not that hard, and I managed to do it with stuff I already had around the house. Let’s get started!
Preparation
First things first, I had to gather everything I needed. Here’s what I used:
- A clean jar with a lid
- Corn syrup
- Dried mushroom(I used the button mushroom)
- Water
- A pot for boiling
- A syringe (optional)
Mixing the Solution
I started by boiling the kettle and then poured about 1 liter of hot water into the pot. Next, I added a tablespoon of corn syrup to the water. I heard the corn syrup feeds the mycelium, which is what we want to grow. Then I allow the mixed liquid to cool down.

Adding the Mushroom
Once the water cooled down, I took a piece of dried mushroom and dropped it into the jar. I also heard you could use a spore print, but I didn’t have one of those, so I just went with the dried mushroom.
Sealing and Waiting
After putting the mushroom in, I put the lid on the jar, making sure it was on tight. Now came the hard part – waiting! I put the jar in a dark place, because I heard mycelium likes the dark. I read somewhere that the temperature should be between 72 F and 80 F, so I tried to keep it in that range. This is when the mycelium will start to take over.
Checking for Growth
I checked the jar every few days to see what was happening. I heard that mycelium growing can take up to 3 to 6 weeks to see any growth. Then after about 2 weeks, I started to see some white, fluffy stuff growing in the jar! It looked like mycelium to me. I was so excited that it was actually working.
Patience is Key
It took a while, but eventually, the mycelium took over the whole jar. It was a pretty cool process to watch. I learned that growing mushrooms this way takes longer than other methods, but it was worth it to see it all happen from scratch.
Finally
In the end, I successfully made liquid culture for growing mushrooms. It was a fun experiment, and I’m happy I gave it a try. If you’re thinking about trying this, just remember to be patient and keep everything clean. You might be surprised at what you can grow!
This is just my experience, and I’m no expert, but I wanted to share how I did it. Hope you find this helpful!
