Okay, so, I’ve got a couple of furry friends at home, and let me tell you, they’re great, but sometimes you just need to keep them out of certain areas, right? That’s where these indoor dog gates come in handy. I decided to get some and see how it goes, and I’m here to share my experience with you guys.
Choosing the right gate
First off, I started looking around, checking different types. There are so many out there! Pressure-mounted, hardware-mounted, freestanding…it was a bit overwhelming, honestly. I ended up going with a pressure-mounted one because I didn’t want to drill holes in my walls.
- Pressure-mounted: These are super easy to put up. You just adjust them to fit your doorway, and the pressure keeps them in place. No tools needed!
- Hardware-mounted: These are more permanent, you screw them into the wall. I guess they’re sturdier, but I wasn’t ready for that commitment.
- Freestanding: These just stand on their own, no mounting at all. They seemed a bit flimsy to me, but maybe they work for smaller dogs.
I found this one called the “Cumbor Auto Close” something or other, and it had a little pet door built in. Thought that was pretty cool, so I could let my cat through but keep the dogs out. Clever, right?

Setting it up
Getting it set up was pretty straightforward. I followed the instructions, and it was just a matter of adjusting the width and locking it in place. It took me maybe 15 minutes, tops. The auto-close feature is neat too, it swings shut behind you.
Now, the real test was seeing if my dogs would respect it. At first, they were confused, sniffing around it, trying to figure out how to get through. My older dog, bless his heart, just gave up and lay down in front of it. My younger one, though, she’s a bit more persistent. She tried to squeeze through the pet door a few times, but no luck – she’s too big!
Living with the gate
It’s been a few weeks now, and honestly, the gate’s been a lifesaver. I can finally keep the dogs out of the kitchen when I’m cooking, and I don’t have to worry about them getting into stuff they shouldn’t. It gives us both a little more freedom, you know? They have their space, and I have mine.
It is also very convenient when I need to do something in a room and don’t want them around. Close the door and they can’t come in, that’s it. No more barking or scratching the door from outside.
All in all, I’m pretty happy with this whole dog gate thing. It’s a simple solution that makes a big difference. If you’re thinking about getting one, I’d say go for it! Just do a little research and find one that fits your needs and your home. You won’t regret it!
