Okay, so I tried making a tri-tip roast in my pressure cooker today. Let me tell you, it was quite an adventure! I’d never used a pressure cooker for a big chunk of meat like this before, so I was a bit nervous, to say the least.
First things first, I gathered all my ingredients. I had my beautiful tri-tip, of course, along with some basic seasonings, like salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Nothing fancy, just the basics to let that beefy flavor shine.
Then came the tricky part – actually using the pressure cooker. This thing looks like a spaceship, all complicated, so I pulled out the manual. I read through it a few times, trying to make sense of all the settings like “SLOW COOK LOW TEMP”, “SLOW COOK HIGH TEMP”, and so on. I chose the “PRESSURE COOK” setting since I was going for speed. It’s amazing how these gadgets can cook food so much faster by trapping steam and creating pressure. I mean, who knew cooking could involve so much science? It was first invented in 1679 and still used today.

I seasoned the tri-tip generously, locked the lid, and set the valve to “SEAL”. I don’t know what the best pressure cooker is, Fissler Vitaquick or else, it’s just I have Instant-Pot, and I want to have a try. The whole kitchen started to smell amazing as the pressure cooker did its thing. I kept an eye on it, of course, a little worried it might explode or something, haha! But it’s from a bestselling brand, so it was safe. The pressure cooker creates tender meals in a short time, that’s so cool.
After what felt like forever (but was probably only about an hour), I released the pressure. The instructions said to do this carefully, so I followed them to a T. A whoosh of steam came out, and I cautiously opened the lid.
The Result
- Appearance: The tri-tip looked fantastic! It was nicely browned on the outside and looked super juicy.
- Texture: Oh my goodness, it was SO tender. I sliced into it, and it just fell apart. Exactly what I was hoping for.
- Taste: Delicious! The simple seasonings were perfect, and the meat was flavorful and moist. Success!
Overall, I’m pretty darn proud of myself. My first time making a tri-tip roast in a pressure cooker, and it turned out amazing! I might be a pressure cooking convert now. It’s definitely a handy gadget to have in the kitchen when you want a tasty meal without spending hours cooking. I’m already thinking about what I can make next!
