So, I’ve been meaning to check out some indoor spots in Austin ’cause, you know, the weather here can be a bit unpredictable. I figured I’d share my little adventure, might give you some ideas if you’re ever in town.
The Planning Stage
First things first, I did a bit of digging around. Asked some friends, browsed through some local blogs, you know, the usual. I wanted a mix of things, not just museums, but maybe some quirky stuff too. My goal was to hit up at least three different places in one day.
The First Stop: Blanton Museum of Art
I started my day at the Blanton Museum of Art over at the University of Texas campus. Getting there was pretty straightforward, parked the car nearby without too much hassle. I walked in, got my ticket, which was like fifteen bucks – pretty standard for a museum I guess. The place is huge! They’ve got all sorts of stuff, from European paintings to modern and contemporary art. I spent a good two hours wandering around, taking pictures of some cool pieces. Honestly, I could have used a bigger phone storage, I took pictures of paintings and their description. The “Austin” installation by Ellsworth Kelly was definitely a highlight, super minimalist but really striking. It was a great time but my feet were tired.

Second Stop: Peter Pan Mini Golf
After the museum, I was feeling a bit peckish but also wanted something fun. I drove over to Peter Pan Mini Golf, which is this iconic Austin spot. I mean, who doesn’t love mini-golf, right? It’s been there forever, since like the 1940s, they told me. Paid for a round, grabbed a putter and a brightly colored ball, and hit the course. It was pretty crowded, mostly families, but I didn’t mind. It’s got all these goofy, oversized obstacles, like a giant T-Rex and, of course, Peter Pan himself. I spent around one hour there, and I even got a hole-in-one on the third hole, the T-Rex hole! It is worth it.
Wrapping Up the Day: The Escape Game
To cap off the day, I headed to The Escape Game. This was recommended by a friend who’s really into these things. I’ve never tried one before, but I’m always up for a challenge. When I got there, they showed me which games I can play and their difficulty. I chose the easiest one since it was my first time. They have different themes, like prison breaks and heists. I chose the “Prison Break” room. My goal was to get out from a prison cell within one hour. I had to team up with some other people, and we started looking for clues, solving puzzles, and trying to “escape”. It was way more intense than I expected! We were running around, shouting instructions at each other, it was a blast. We managed to get out with, like, 5 minutes to spare. My heart was pumping. The staff told me there were 8 steps to get out, and we figured them out all by ourselves. It was exciting.
- Go to a museum.
- Play mini-golf.
- Try an escape room.
All in all, it was a pretty solid day exploring Austin’s indoor attractions. I got my culture fix, had some silly fun, and even got the adrenaline pumping. If you’re ever in Austin and need to escape the heat or the rain, definitely check out these places, or at least something like them. You won’t regret it!
