So, I’ve been trying to get more active lately, you know, trying to shake things up a bit. And what better way to do that than kicking a ball around, right? So, I decided to give this indoor soccer thing a shot here in Austin.
First things first, I had to find a place. After asking around and checking out a few places, I stumbled upon this place called “Soccer Hub”. It sounded pretty legit with its fancy “FIFA Approved Futsal court”. They even bragged about it being the “most effective way to develop a player’s technical skills” – well, I’m no pro, but who doesn’t like a confidence boost?
Gearing up was next on the list. Luckily, I had some old sports gear lying around. I grabbed my old pair of soccer cleats, some athletic shorts, and a t-shirt. I was ready to rock, or so I thought.

Stepping into the facility was quite an experience. The place was buzzing with energy, folks of all ages running around, having a blast. The futsal court was indeed impressive, all shiny and new. I joined a casual game that was just starting, and boy, was I in for a surprise.

The Game Begins
The pace was way quicker than I expected. These guys were darting around like pros! I was huffing and puffing, trying to keep up. I did manage to get a few kicks in, but mostly I was just trying not to trip over my own feet. It was a humbling experience, to say the least.

A Few Mishaps
There were a couple of moments where I totally wiped out. Once, I went for a slide tackle (like they do on TV) and ended up sprawled on the floor. Another time, I tried to head the ball and ended up missing completely. But hey, everyone was super cool about it. No judgments, just some good-natured laughs.

The Aftermath
After about an hour, I was beat. Exhausted but also weirdly energized. My legs felt like jelly, but I had a huge grin on my face. I even managed to score a goal, though it was probably more luck than skill.
Post-game, I checked out their lounge. They had a bar there, which I thought was pretty neat. It was a nice spot to chill out after a game and chat with other players. I didn’t grab a drink this time, but I made a mental note to come back.
Overall, it was a blast. I might not be the next soccer star, but I definitely had fun. And I learned that indoor soccer is no joke – it’s a serious workout. I’m planning to go back again next week. Maybe this time, I’ll be a little less clumsy and a little more coordinated. Or maybe not, but either way, I’m sure it’ll be a good time.
Oh, and I found out there’s this place called “Avila Soccer” too. They offer training for both kids and adults. It’s at 8863 Anderson Mill Road, Suite 107. I might check that out sometime, maybe get some actual training so I don’t embarrass myself too much on the court. Their phone number is 512-363-7992, in case you’re interested.
Anyway, that’s my indoor soccer adventure in Austin so far. It’s been fun, it’s been tiring, and it’s definitely something I’ll keep doing. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get good at it eventually. Or at least good enough not to fall on my face every five minutes. Fingers crossed!
