Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another kitchen adventure. Today, we’re tackling a classic: steak tips. Specifically, I wanted to figure out the best way to cook them in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. So, I rolled up my sleeves, put on my favorite apron, and got to work.
Getting Started
First things first, I grabbed my steak tips from the fridge. I’d picked these up from the local butcher – they were about an inch thick, which is a pretty standard size. I let them sit out for a bit to get to room temperature. You know, they say it helps them cook more evenly.
Prepping the Steak
While the steak was getting comfy, I preheated my oven to 350F. Then, I got a cast iron skillet and put it on the stovetop over medium-high heat. Once it was hot, I added a bit of oil – just enough to coat the bottom.

Searing for Flavor
Now, for the fun part! I seasoned my steak tips generously with salt, pepper, and a little garlic powder. Then, I carefully placed them in the hot skillet. The goal here was to get a nice sear on the outside. I let them cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, just enough to get a beautiful brown crust. Man, the smell was already amazing.
Into the Oven
After searing, it was time for the oven. I transferred the whole skillet, steak tips and all, into the preheated oven. This is where things can get a little tricky. The cooking time really depends on how you like your steak done and how thick the tips are.
Figuring Out the Time
- Rare: If you’re a fan of rare steak, you’re probably looking at around 8-10 minutes. But I’m not that guy.
- Medium-Rare: This is my sweet spot. For a 1-inch steak tip, 15 minutes usually does the trick.
- Medium: Add a couple more minutes and it will be about 17-19 minutes.
- Well-Done: If you like your steak well-done, you might need to go for 12-14 minutes, maybe even longer. Just keep an eye on it.
The Moment of Truth
So, for my medium-rare preference and 1-inch thick tips, I set the timer for 15 minutes. About halfway through, I flipped the steak tips to make sure they cooked evenly on both sides. When the timer went off, I pulled the skillet out of the oven. Oh boy, did they look good.
Rest and Enjoy
I let the steak tips rest for a few minutes before slicing into them. This allows the juices to redistribute, making for a more tender and flavorful bite. And let me tell you, the wait was worth it. The steak was cooked perfectly – a beautiful pink in the center, juicy, and full of flavor.
So there you have it, folks. Cooking steak tips in the oven at 350F is totally doable, and the results are delicious. Just remember to adjust the cooking time based on your preference and the thickness of your steak. Happy cooking!
