Well, howdy there, y’all! Let’s talk about them Gundam model kits, you know, the ones with the giant robots. My grandson, he loves them things. Always fiddlin’ with little plastic pieces. Says he wants to paint ’em too, indoors mind you, ’cause it gets too darn hot outside in the summer and too cold in the winter.
So, if you’re like my grandson, and want to paint these Gundam robot thingies inside, you gotta know a few things. First off, these kits, they come in colors already, so you don’t *have* to paint ’em. But my grandson, he’s a picky one. Wants ’em just so.
Now, about that paint. You can’t just use any ol’ paint, no sirree. My grandson, he talks about “Tamiya” and “Mr. Hobby” paints. Sounds fancy, don’t it? He says they’re the best for spray painting. But he also says most spray paints will do, long as they’re that “lacquer” or “acrylic” stuff. Don’t ask me what that means, sounds like somethin’ the city folk use.

- Acrylic Paint: This here paint, it’s water-based, which means you can clean it up with water. My grandson says it’s good for beginners ’cause it ain’t so smelly and it’s easier to clean up if you make a mess, which he does, a lot.
- Lacquer Paint: Now, this stuff is stronger, but it smells somethin’ fierce. You gotta open the windows and maybe even wear one of them face mask thingies, so you don’t breathe in all them fumes. My grandson, he uses this when he wants the paint to be real shiny and tough.
Before you start slappin’ paint on them robots, you gotta do some prep work, or so my grandson tells me. He’s got all these little tools, clippers and files and whatnot. Says you gotta get rid of the little nubs left over from where you cut the pieces off the sprue, whatever that is.
And you gotta be careful where you’re painting. You don’t want to get paint all over your table, or worse, the carpet. My grandson, he puts down newspaper or some old cardboard. Smart kid, sometimes. And if you’re spray painting, he says you gotta do it in light coats, or the paint will run and look all gloppy. Nobody wants a gloppy robot, I reckon.
He also told me about “priming” the models. Sounds like somethin’ you do to a well before you pump water. But with these Gundam things, it means putting on a coat of primer paint first, so the other paint sticks better. He says it helps the colors look brighter too.
Now, where do you get all this stuff? Well, my grandson, he’s always lookin’ at them “customer reviews” online. Says you can find the “best sellers” that way and get “free delivery” sometimes too. He’s always gettin’ packages in the mail, that boy. Probably spends all my money on them robots and paints.
Safety First, Y’all!
Listen here, painting inside can be tricky. You gotta make sure you got good air flow, like I said. Open them windows! And don’t let the young’uns get a hold of the paint. It ain’t good for ’em. And always, always clean up after yourself. Don’t want no paint chips gettin’ in the dog’s food or nothin’. My grandson, he’s pretty good about cleanin’ up, mostly ‘cause I yell at him if he don’t.
So, there you have it. A little bit about paintin’ them Gundam model kits indoors, straight from an old woman who’s learned a thing or two from her grandson. It ain’t rocket science, but it ain’t child’s play neither. Just be careful, use the right paint, and have fun. And for goodness sake, don’t make a mess!
If you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ into this whole Gundam thing, just remember, it’s a hobby, supposed to be fun. Don’t get too worked up about it if you make a mistake. Just slap another coat of paint on it and call it a “weathering effect,” that’s what my grandson says when he messes up. Clever boy.
And if you’re lookin’ for more info, just “read customer reviews” and “find best sellers” online. It’s how the youngsters do it these days. And don’t forget, “free delivery” is always a good thing.
Well, that’s all I got to say about them Gundam models. Hope it helps ya out some. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go see what that grandson of mine is up to. Probably makin’ a mess with his paints again.
