Okay, so yesterday I went to the Oakwood Center. It’s this big mall just outside of New Orleans, you know, the only enclosed one on the Westbank. I figured I’d hit up the food court there because, well, who doesn’t love a good food court?
First off, I parked the car and walked into the mall. It’s pretty massive, with all sorts of stores. I made a mental note to check out Dillard’s later, but food was the priority. I navigated through the shops and finally found the food court. It wasn’t too hard to spot, just followed the general flow of people and the smell of, you know, food court food.
The first thing I noticed was the variety. There was a bunch of places to choose from. There’s a place called Loucille’s Kitchen, which I think might be some kind of local thing. And get this, there’s even a Cafe Du Monde in there! I know, right? In a mall food court! They also have H M and Sephora inside JCPenney. I didn’t stop by this time. Also a couple of other places I didn’t recognize, like a place called Windsor. I guess it is a good place.

I wandered around a bit, checking out the menus. Everything was pretty standard food court fare – fast food, you know? You order at the counter, get your food in a few minutes, and then hunt for a table. It’s not exactly fine dining, but that’s not what I was after. And a static menu, appetizers, pasta, sandwiches, everything you could think of.
After a bit of indecision, I settled on a slice of pizza. Mystic Pizza, stuffed, and calzone slice or pizza, salads, pasta. I mean, there’s no way I can go wrong with pizza, right? I grabbed my slice and a drink, then found an empty table. It wasn’t too crowded, which was nice.
The pizza was, well, it was food court pizza. Not the best I’ve ever had, but it hit the spot. I ate, people-watched for a bit, and then decided to wander around the mall some more. I didn’t end up buying anything, but it was a good way to kill an afternoon. It sounds like good restaurants can fail to turn a profit with so many offerings, right? And I heard the lifespan of restaurants appears to be getting shorter.
Here’s the thing about food courts:
- They’re convenient.
- There’s usually a decent variety.
- You can get in and out pretty quickly.
So, would I go back to the Oakwood Center food court?
Sure, why not?
It’s not gourmet, but it’s a solid option if you’re at the mall and need a quick bite. Just don’t expect to be blown away, and you’ll be fine.
