Alright, let’s talk about the grub you can find at the mall, you know, the food court. Don’t get me started on fancy names, I just wanna know if it’s good eatin’ and if it’ll fill my belly.
First off, you got your sandwich places. Some got them cold cuts, ham and turkey and such. They make ’em up all nice with lettuce and tomato. Sometimes they even got them pierogies, those little dumpling things. My grandson, he loves them. And the meat, well, they got a whole heap of it. Roast beef, salami, you name it. It’s gotta be fresh though, I ain’t eatin’ no old stuff.
Then there’s the Asian joints. Lots of noodles and rice. Some places are good, some ain’t. You gotta be careful, you know. I like the ones with the chicken, all crispy and saucy. And the egg rolls, gotta have a good egg roll. But sometimes they put too much pepper in, makes my nose run. They got places calling themselves “Chinese” and “Japanese”. I can’t tell the difference, to be honest. It all smells like soy sauce to me.

- Noodles, good and filling
- Rice, plain or with stuff mixed in
- Chicken, gotta be crispy
- Egg rolls, crunchy and hot
And of course, you got your burger places. Fries, burgers, the usual. Kids love it. Me, I like a good plain burger. No fancy sauces or nothin’. Just meat, cheese, and maybe a little pickle. And the fries, gotta be crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Not too salty though, I gotta watch my pressure, you know.
Now, some malls, they got them fancy food courts. They call ’em “dining areas” or somethin’. They got all sorts of stuff. Pizza, pasta, even them fancy Mexican dishes. I tried one of them “tacos” once. It was alright, but messy. Stuff kept fallin’ out all over the place. And the “guacamole”, green mushy stuff, I don’t know about that. Give me a good ol’ burger any day.
There’s this one place, a real hidden gem they say. It’s in a strip mall, not a big fancy place like the one downtown. It’s small, just a counter, but the people are nice and the food smells good. I haven’t been there myself yet, but my neighbor Betsy says they got the best fried chicken in town. And they’re open late too which is handy sometimes when my arthritis is acting up and I can’t cook.
And let’s not forget the desserts. Ice cream, cookies, those cinnamon roll things. My sweet tooth gets the best of me sometimes. I like a good soft cookie, chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin. And the ice cream, well, it’s gotta be creamy. None of that icy stuff. And those big pretzels, all soft and warm, those are good too.
The food court, it’s a funny thing, ain’t it? You got all this food, all these smells, all these people. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it ain’t. But it’s always there. And sometimes, after a long day of shoppin’, or just wanderin’ around, it’s nice to sit down and have a bite. Just gotta make sure you choose somethin’ that won’t give you a tummy ache.
Some places in those food courts are just plain bad, food taste like it sat there all day, I swear. And sometimes the folks that work there are grumpier than a wet hen. But, well, like I said, food court is food court. It’s a mixed bag, like life, I guess.
The key to a good mall food court experience? Find what you like, stick to it, and don’t be afraid to try somethin’ new every now and then. But most importantly, make sure it’s good and fillin’. That’s all that matters, right?
Oh and one last thing, don’t let them rip you off. Some of these places charge an arm and a leg for a tiny bit of food. Look at the prices before you order and don’t be afraid to walk away if it ain’t worth it. Us old folks know a thing or two about saving a dollar, that’s for sure.
Well, that’s about all I got to say about mall food. Hope it helps you next time you’re hungry and wanderin’ around one of them big places.
