Okay, so I recently had to deal with finding a place for my grandpa, and let me tell you, it was a whole thing. I ended up checking out this place called Eastland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. I had no idea where to start, but a friend mentioned them, so I thought, “Why not?”
First off, I just went on to their website to check it out. I went through the website and found some essential information about this place.
Then I called them up. The lady on the phone was really nice, and she answered all my questions—even the dumb ones. She told me they do both long-term care and short-term rehab, which was good to know. Grandpa needed the rehab after his hip surgery, but long-term care is something I knew I’d have to think about.

After that, I scheduled a visit to see the place in person. When I got there, it was pretty clean and didn’t smell like a hospital, which was a big plus. They showed me around, and I saw some of the therapy equipment they use. It looked pretty high-tech, and I found out that it was specially designed for stuff like hip and knee replacements and stroke recovery, so that was reassuring. They had equipment for all kinds of therapies, I guess.
I also talked to some of the staff. They seemed like they actually cared, you know? They weren’t just there for a paycheck. That meant a lot to me. One nurse even told me about how they try to create a caring atmosphere for the residents. Sounded good to me, although I knew that every place says that, and it is important to make sure they really practice it.
What I Found Out
- Certified Beds: They have around 93 certified beds. This means they can take in quite a few people.
- Pricing: The cost was a big thing for me. It starts at $2,200, but it can go up to like $6,000, depending on what kind of care you need. That’s a big range, but it’s good they have options.
- Services: They do all kinds of therapy, like physical therapy, occupational therapy, and even speech therapy. It is kind of like a one-stop shop for getting better.
- Rating: I found out that their nursing home rating is 2 out of 5, which isn’t super great, but it isn’t terrible either.
I also read some reviews online. Some people loved the place, others had complaints. But I guess you’ll find that with any place. I also noticed that they are certified for both Medicare and Medicaid. I thought that was important for many people.
In the end, I decided to go with Eastland for Grandpa’s rehab. He’s been there for a couple of weeks now, and so far, so good. He says the therapy is helping, and he likes the food, which is a miracle because he’s a picky eater. Of course, I still visit him a lot and keep an eye on things, but overall, I’m feeling pretty good about the decision. It was a tough call, but I think we made the right one.
This place is not just a nursing home. It also has an independent living option. So, if my grandpa decides he doesn’t want to go back home, he could potentially transition to that. It’s good to have that option, I think.
Anyway, that’s my experience with Eastland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. It’s not perfect, but nothing is. They seem to be doing a decent job, and my grandpa is getting the care he needs. If you’re looking for a place for a loved one, they might be worth checking out. Just do your homework, visit the place, and talk to the staff. That’s my advice.
