Alright, so I figured I’d jot down some notes on what I’ve been up to trying to scrape together some GP while mostly being away from the keyboard. Real life keeps you busy, you know? But gotta keep the OSRS bank ticking over somehow.
Trying out the AFK Grind
First up, I decided to give cannonballs a shot. Everyone mentions it, seems like the go-to AFK thing. So, I went ahead and bought a load of steel bars. Yeah, it costs a bit to get started, always feels a bit iffy spending GP to make GP, but that’s the game. Found myself a furnace, got the ammo mould out, and just started the process.
Making them is dead simple. Click furnace, click make-all, then just sit back. Seriously low effort. You can easily watch something else, check your phone, whatever. It’s proper AFK, minimal clicks needed. The inventory takes a fair bit of time to complete. The catch? It’s slow money. Painfully slow sometimes. Seeing the stack grow is nice, sure, but when you actually sell them, don’t expect massive profits. It’s consistent, I’ll give it that. Probably best if you genuinely can only spare a click every few minutes.

- Bought a stack of steel bars.
- Parked myself at a furnace with the mould.
- Clicked, waited. Then waited some more.
- Sold the cannonballs. Profit was… well, it was profit.
Switched it Up: Fishing Time
Got a bit bored of the furnace smell after a while, wanted a change of pace. Heard fishing monkfish could be good AFK cash as well. Had to double-check I’d done Swan Song – thankfully, that old quest was out of the way. Fishing level was okay too, so that was sorted.
Grabbed my small fishing net, geared up lightly, and made the trip to the Piscatoris Fishing Colony. Found a fishing spot and clicked away. Compared to cannonballs, this felt a bit different. Still very AFK, don’t get me wrong. You click the spot, character does the work. But the inventory fills up way faster than making cannonballs. Felt like I had to check back more often, you know, to bank the fish.
The cash seemed a little better here, especially since I wasn’t buying steel bars constantly. Just needed the net and some patience. It’s not gonna buy you the best gear overnight, let’s be honest, none of these super AFK methods will. But just chilling there, hauling up monkfish, it wasn’t bad. Fewer clicks overall than cannonballs maybe, but more frequent checks needed for banking and finding a new spot if yours runs out. A different kind of AFK.
So that’s my little experiment with AFK money making recently. Cannonballs for when I seriously can’t look at the screen much. Monkfish when I can afford a few more glances and clicks, and want slightly better returns. Neither is gonna break the bank, but it’s passive income, right? Better than nothing when you’re busy doing other things. That’s the idea anyway.
