Man, the internet can be a real dumpster fire sometimes, right? I’ve been diving deep into this whole “online toxicity” thing lately, and let me tell you, it’s a mess. I started out just trying to understand why people are so darn mean online. I mean, it’s like everyone forgets there’s a real human being on the other side of the screen.
So, I began to observe all these popular online games – League of Legends, Overwatch, Call of Duty, you name it. These games are like the poster children for toxic behavior. It’s insane! I personally witnessed players hurling insults, making threats, and just generally being awful to each other. It’s like they get a kick out of ruining someone else’s day.
And it’s not just in games. I’ve seen it on social media, in comment sections, everywhere. It seems to be everywhere online!

Then I realize something, It’s not just about individual jerks being jerks. It’s bigger than that. It seemed like once a few people started being toxic, others would join in, and before you know it, the whole place turns into a cesspool. It becomes normal, even expected, to be a total jerk.
I did some digging, trying to find ways to deal with all this negativity.
- First, I started unfollowing and removing pages and people that were constantly negative. It’s like cleaning out your closet, but for your social media feed. You wouldn’t believe how much better you feel when you’re not constantly bombarded with negativity.
- I also tried engaging with some of these toxic folks, but not in a confrontational way. More like, “Hey, I get that you’re frustrated, but maybe we can talk about this like adults?” You know, trying to be the bigger person. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. But hey, at least I tried, right?
- Then, I got into this whole idea of fostering a culture of respect and accountability. It’s like, if we all just agreed to be decent human beings and called each other out when we’re being jerks, maybe things would get better. It’s a long shot, I know, but I’m an optimist.
Here is what I have done:
It’s a tough battle, fighting against online toxicity. It’s like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon. But I’m not giving up. I think if enough of us start pushing back against the negativity and promoting a more positive online environment, we can make a difference. It’s worth a shot, right?
So, that’s my little adventure into the wild world of online toxicity. It’s been eye-opening, to say the least. But I’m hopeful. I think we can turn things around. We just need to keep fighting the good fight.
