Okay, so I have been thinking about changing up the vibe in my place, and I figured, why not start with the lights? I mean, lighting can totally transform a room, right?
So, I dove into this little project of installing indoor LED lights. First off, I hit up a few stores, just browsing around, seeing what’s out there. There are so many options, it’s kinda crazy. Strip lights, panel lights, recessed lights… you name it.
I decided to go with some strip lights for under my kitchen cabinets and some recessed lights for the living room. I just felt like they’d give the spaces a nice, modern touch. The strip lights were a breeze to install. They came with this adhesive backing, so I just stuck them under the cabinets. I did have to cut them to fit, but that was easy peasy with a pair of scissors.

- Picked out some LED strip lights and recessed lights.
- Installed the strip lights under the kitchen cabinets.
- Cut the strip lights to fit with scissors.
The recessed lights were a bit more of a challenge. I had to turn off the power at the breaker box, for safety. Then, I used a stud finder to locate the ceiling joists – didn’t want to cut into one of those! Marked out where I wanted the lights, and cut the holes with a drywall saw. It got a bit dusty, not gonna lie.
Wiring Stuff
Wiring was the trickiest part. I followed the instructions that came with the lights, but it was still a bit nerve-wracking. I connected the wires, making sure the colors matched up. Black to black, white to white, and the ground wire to the green screw. After everything was wired up, I carefully tucked the wires into the ceiling and popped the lights into place.
Flipped the power back on, and bam! Let there be light! And it was good. The kitchen looks way more sleek now with the under-cabinet lighting. And the living room? It’s like a whole new space. The recessed lights give it such a clean, bright feel. I even got some smart LED bulbs that I can control with my phone. I can change the colors and dim them, it’s pretty cool.
Honestly, this little DIY project turned out better than I expected. It wasn’t too hard, even for a non-electrician like me. And the difference it made in my place? Huge. I’m definitely thinking about doing the same in other rooms now.
