Okay, so I’ve been thinking a lot about whether I should run inside or outside. It’s a real head-scratcher, you know? Both have their ups and downs, and I just can’t make up my mind.
First off, I grabbed this non-slip runner rug. It’s about 2 by 6 feet, has a rubber backing, and you can use it indoors or outdoors. I laid it out in my hallway to start, figuring it would be good for indoor runs. It’s kinda nice because it’s washable and seems pretty durable, which is great.
Then, I did some reading. People online are going back and forth about the pros and cons of running indoors versus outdoors. On one hand, running inside is said to be safer. You don’t have to worry about traffic or uneven terrain. Plus, you can watch TV while you’re at it, which is a bonus if you get bored easily like me.

- Safer from traffic and bad weather
- Can watch TV while running
- Climate-controlled environment
Indoors
But then there’s the whole outdoor thing. Fresh air, sunshine – it all sounds so appealing. I even considered using the runner rug on my patio, but it seemed a bit too fancy for that. There’s this Japanese description I stumbled upon, talking about a rug with colorful buoy-like motifs that can be used both indoors and outdoors. It sounded so stylish, but mine is just a plain one. Anyway, running outside lets you explore different routes and enjoy nature.
- Fresh air and sunshine
- Variety of scenery and routes
- More challenging terrain
Outdoors
So, I started with some indoor runs on the rug. It felt weird at first, running in the same spot, but it was definitely convenient. No need to worry about the weather or getting dressed up. I put on some music and just went for it. It was kind of boring, though. I mean, there’s only so much you can look at in a hallway.
After a few days, I decided to try running outside. I didn’t take the rug, obviously. I just went to a nearby park. It was so much better! The air was fresh, there were trees and birds, and I felt so much more energized. It was a bit harder on my legs, though, because of the hills and different surfaces.
I’ve been switching between indoor and outdoor runs. If the weather’s bad or I’m short on time, I run inside. If it’s nice out and I have more time, I go outside. It’s a good balance, I think. I’m getting the best of both worlds.
In the end, I think it really comes down to personal preference. Some people swear by treadmills, while others can’t stand the thought of being cooped up inside. As for me, I’m happy doing both. It keeps things interesting, and I feel like I’m getting a better workout overall.
So, that’s my little running adventure. It’s not very exciting, but I wanted to share it anyway. Maybe it’ll help someone else who’s trying to decide between indoor and outdoor running. Or maybe it’ll just give you a little chuckle. Either way, I hope you enjoyed it!
