This here thing, Interference: A Journal of Audio Culture, you hear me? It’s one of them fancy things, but I’ll tell you what it’s about. It’s about sounds, all kinds of sounds, and how they mess with our lives, how they are part of us.
Now, I ain’t no expert, but I’ve heard a thing or two in my time. This Interference thing, they talk about it like it’s some kind of big deal. They say it’s a place where folks can talk about sounds. It’s online, that much I know. You can find it on that there internet thing, just like you find everything else.
They say it’s “open access,” which I reckon means anybody can look at it. Don’t need no fancy degree or nothin’. Just gotta have a way to get on that internet. And it comes out twice a year, like planting and harvest, I suppose. Some school, they call it “Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media,” or “Gradcam,” they make it, these folks are real into audio culture, I guess.

This journal, it ain’t just about pretty music, no sir. It’s about all them sounds. Like how a woman’s voice sounds different than a man’s, or how folks from different places sound different when they talk. And how sounds can be used for, you know, politics and all that mess. It is about the audio culture. People make a big deal about all this, they write long papers and use big words. Interference is a place for all of this I guess.
They got this thing called “phenomenology.” Now, I don’t rightly know what that is, but it sounds important. Probably something them college folks came up with. They use it to study sounds, I guess. This whole audio culture thing is complicated.
I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout how this Interference thing is like listenin’ to a place, like really listenin’. Not just hearin’ the sounds, but understandin’ what they mean. They call it “sonic ethnography” or something like that. Like studyin’ people by the sounds they make and the sounds around ’em. Makes sense, I reckon. You can tell a lot about a place by how it sounds. They even have some things you can play, some “tracks” and “albums,” they call ’em. They put it on that SoundCloud thing.
Interference: A Journal of Audio Culture, that’s the name. Number 2, I saw that somewhere. Don’t know what happened to number 1, maybe they lost it. But number 2 is out there somewhere, that Rebelo fella, he’s mixed up in it somehow. He must like this whole audio culture stuff.
I reckon this Interference thing is good for folks who like to think about sounds. Not just hear ’em, but really think about ’em. What they mean, how they work, all that. It’s a lot to take in, I tell ya. But if you’re interested in that kind of thing, maybe you should check it out.
This whole internet thing, it’s got everything on it, don’t it? Even this thing about sounds, this Interference. It’s a whole world of audio culture out there, I guess. More than I ever thought about, that’s for sure. But hey, maybe it’s worth a listen. You never know what you might learn.
It is a journal of audio culture after all. They talk about all these sounds. Sounds like Interference is for those folks. Not for me, I got enough sounds in my life already, thank you very much. But for those folks, maybe this Interference thing is just what they’re lookin’ for. This online journal is for them. There is a lot about audio in this world, I can tell ya that much. And that’s all I gotta say about that.
You young folks and your internet. Back in my day, we didn’t have all this. We just had the sounds around us, the real sounds. Didn’t need no fancy journal to tell us about ’em. But times change, I guess. Now you got this Interference: A Journal of Audio Culture. Go figure. Just don’t forget to listen to the real world, too, you hear? That’s where the real audio culture is, if you ask me.
