Alright, let’s talk about this money thing, you know, the cash that’s just sittin’ there waitin’ for someone to grab it. They say there’s a whole bunch of Irish folks, yeah, people from Ireland, or maybe their kids or grandkids, who got money comin’ to ’em. Big money, they say. Fortunes, even.
Now, how’s this happen? Well, seems like some folks, they up and die without sayin’ who gets their stuff. No will, you know? Just…gone. And the money, well, it just sits there. The government, they got it, but it ain’t theirs to keep. It belongs to the family, if they can find ’em.
So, how do you know if some of that money’s yours?

That’s the tricky part, ain’t it? They got these lists, see? Big ol’ lists of names. Irish names, mostly. Names like Walsh, O’Sullivan, Kelly, Murphy…you know, the common ones. But there’s others too, hundreds of ’em. They say over 237 different names, maybe even more. And if your family name’s on that list, well, you might be in luck.
- First thing, you gotta know your family. Who were your grandparents? Great-grandparents? Where did they come from? If they were from Ireland, that’s a good start.
- Then, you gotta check them lists. They got websites, you know, places on the internet where they put all them names. “Unclaimed Estates” they call ’em. You go there, type in your name, see what pops up.
- And if you find somethin’, don’t go gettin’ all excited just yet. You gotta prove it’s your family. Birth certificates, marriage licenses, all that official stuff. It ain’t easy, but if there’s a big pile of money waitin’, well, it’s worth the trouble, ain’t it?
They say there’s over 500 cases in England and Wales alone, just waitin’ for someone to claim ’em. And some of them estates, they got big money, more than a thousand pounds, they say. Enough to change a person’s life, that’s for sure.
Now, I ain’t no fancy lawyer or nothin’, but I know a thing or two about family. And I know money don’t grow on trees. So if there’s money out there with your name on it, well, you go get it. Don’t be shy. It’s yours, after all.
What kinda names are we talkin’ about?
Like I said, the common ones, sure. But there’s a whole bunch of others, too. Some you never even heard of, maybe. That’s why you gotta check them lists. Don’t just assume your name ain’t there. You never know.
And it ain’t just about the money, you know. It’s about family. It’s about rememberin’ where you come from. It’s about honorin’ the folks who came before you. They worked hard for that money, and it’s only right that it goes to their family.
So, what should you do now?
Well, first, go talk to your family. Ask your ma, your pa, your aunts and uncles. See what they know about your family history. Where did they come from? Who were their relatives? Write it all down. Then, get on that internet and start searchin’. “Unclaimed Estates Ireland,” “Irish surnames unclaimed money”…stuff like that. And see what you find.
It might take some time, sure. It might be a lot of work. But if there’s a chance, just a small chance, that some of that money belongs to you, well, it’s worth a shot, ain’t it? Money don’t come easy these days, and if there’s some waitin’ for you, well, go get it. That’s what I say.
And remember, don’t let nobody tell you it ain’t worth the effort. That money, it belongs to someone. And if that someone is you, well, then you got every right to go after it. Don’t be shy. Be bold. Be like them Irish folks who came over here with nothin’ and made somethin’ of themselves. You got that same blood in you, don’t you forget it.
