So, I was trying to find some good short stories to read. I’ve always been a fan of short stories, but sometimes it’s hard to find really good ones. You know what I mean? Like, you read a bunch and they’re just… okay. Nothing special.
Then I stumbled upon this book, “The Best American Short Stories of the Century.” I thought, “This sounds promising!” I mean, if it’s got “best” and “century” in the title, it’s gotta be good, right?
I started flipping through it, and wow, there are 55 stories in here! That’s a lot of stories. And they’re not just any stories, they’re supposed to be the best ones from the entire 20th century. That’s a pretty big claim.
I’ve only read a few so far, but I’m already hooked. These stories are amazing. They’re so well-written, and they really make you think. I love how different each story is, too. It’s like a whole bunch of different worlds packed into one book.

I did see that the editor is this guy named John Updike, and there’s also someone named Katrina Kenison involved. I guess they’re the ones who picked out all these stories. They did a good job, that’s for sure. I wonder what their process is like. They must have read thousands of stories to find these 55, right?
I definitely need to read more of this book. This is easily one of the best collections of short stories I’ve ever found. It’s like a treasure trove of good writing. I’ll keep you guys updated on my progress. It’s gonna take me a while to get through all 55, but I’m determined to read them all. Trust me, you are going to want to check out this book.
I have heard of this publisher, Houghton Mifflin Company, that’s the one that published this book. They must be a good company to bring such a good book for us. I am going to find more books from them.
In summary, I wanted to get some good short stories, found this book, got so excited, and realized that it is a great book.
