Alright, so today I’m gonna spill the beans on my latest DIY adventure: money wax melts! I know, it sounds kinda boujee, but trust me, it’s a fun project. Let’s dive right in.
First things first, I started by gathering my supplies. This is always the most crucial step, ya know? No one wants to be halfway through a project and realize they’re missing something. So, I grabbed:
- Wax flakes (I used soy wax ’cause it’s eco-friendly, but any wax will do)
- Wax dye (Green, duh! Gotta keep it money-themed)
- Scented oil (I went with “Cashmere Musk” ’cause it sounded fancy and, well, rich!)
- Melting pot (An old Pyrex measuring cup works like a charm)
- Silicone molds (I found some shaped like dollar signs and coins – score!)
- Fake money (Yeah, the prop kind. Don’t go melting real cash, people!)
- Double boiler (Or a makeshift one with a pot and a heat-safe bowl)
- A thermometer to keep track of the temperature
Got everything? Good. Let’s get melting!
I set up my double boiler, filled the bottom pot with water, and waited for it to simmer. Then, I tossed the wax flakes into the Pyrex cup and placed it on top. Patience is key here. Stir occasionally until the wax is completely melted and smooth as butter.
Once the wax was all melty, I took it off the heat and added a few drops of the green wax dye. Stir, stir, stir until it’s the perfect shade of money green. Next, I poured in the “Cashmere Musk” scented oil. I didn’t measure, just kinda eyeballed it. A little goes a long way, so start small and add more if you want a stronger scent.
Now for the fun part: the money! I carefully cut the fake money into smaller pieces so they’d fit into the silicone molds. Then, I poured a thin layer of the green wax into each mold. Before it hardened completely, I sprinkled in the fake money pieces, making sure they were evenly distributed.
After that, I poured the rest of the wax mixture on top, filling the molds completely. And then, the hardest part: waiting. I let the wax melts cool and harden completely. This took a few hours, but I sped things up by popping them in the fridge for a bit.
Finally, the moment of truth! I gently popped the money wax melts out of the silicone molds. And BAM! They looked amazing! Green, sparkly, and smelling like a million bucks (or at least, like cashmere musk).
I tossed one into my wax warmer, and the whole room filled with a lovely scent. It was so satisfying to see my little money wax melts doing their thing. Plus, they make a great conversation starter.
Lessons Learned:
- Don’t overheat the wax. It can get stinky and burn.
- Less is more with the scented oil. Too much and it can be overpowering.
- Silicone molds are your best friend. They make the whole process so much easier.
All in all, it was a super fun project, and I’m already planning my next batch. Maybe I’ll try different colors and scents next time. Who knows? The possibilities are endless!
