Well, let me tell you, keepin’ them critters where they oughta be ain’t always easy. Especially when you got them indoor pet fences. Gotta keep ’em from tearin’ up the whole darn place, you know?
What’s the best indoor pet fence, you ask?
Now, that’s a question I hear a lot. “What’s the best indoor dog fence?” Well, honey, it depends on what kinda critter you got. And how much trouble they like to get into. You got them little yappers that can’t jump a lick, or them big ol’ hounds that can clear a sofa in a single bound. You gotta know what you’re dealin’ with before you go buyin’ somethin’.
My old Maggie, bless her heart, she was a jumper. Couldn’t keep her contained with nothin’ less than a horse fence. Ended up usin’ one of them extra wide baby gates. Worked like a charm, I tell ya. Kept her outta the kitchen, mostly.

- Some of them fences is wall mount, you see. You gotta screw ’em right into the wall.
- Others, they’re just free standin’. You just plop ’em down wherever you need ’em. Easier to move around, them are.
- But if you got a real smart dog, you don’t need any fence. You just let him do what he wants, like my old pal, Jack.
They got all sorts of these things now. Made outta wood, made outta metal. Some of ’em even fold up real nice, so you can just tuck ’em away when you ain’t usin’ ’em. I remember back in my day, we just used whatever we had lyin’ around. Old chairs, a stack of firewood, you name it. But these newfangled indoor pet fences, they sure are fancy.
Pickin’ the right size is important
Now, you gotta make sure you get the right size. Measure where you gonna put the darn thing before you go buyin’ it. Wouldn’t wanna get home and find out it’s too short or too long, now would ya? And think about how tall your dog is. Like I said, them little dogs, they ain’t gonna jump over nothin’ too high. But them big ones, well, you better get somethin’ that’ll reach the sky! Some of them are 24 inches, some are higher. Make sure you are getting the right height of the dog fence.
And you don’t want to buy those cheap pet gates, they won’t last long. You will waste your money. I always say, you get what you pay for. Now, I ain’t sayin’ you gotta go out and spend a fortune. But don’t be buyin’ the cheapest thing you can find, neither. It’ll just fall apart on ya, and then you’ll be right back where you started. Spend a little extra, and get somethin’ that’ll actually do the job.
Keepin’ them pups safe
See, these indoor pet fences, they ain’t just about keepin’ your house clean. They’re about keepin’ your critters safe, too. If you got a new puppy, you gotta introduce him to your home little by little. You can’t just let him run wild, he’ll get into all sorts of trouble. He might chew on somethin’ he ain’t supposed to, or worse, he might get hurt. A good fence will keep him in a safe area while he’s learnin’ the ropes.
And you can use these things for trainin’, too. If he is doing potty in the house, you can use the dog fences to keep him in an area where he won’t be doing it, such as your bedroom or living room. It’s also good for keeping them away from the stairs. Them steps can be dangerous, especially for little pups. You don’t want your buddy to have any accident.
Now, I ain’t no expert on all these newfangled contraptions. But I’ve had my share of critters over the years, and I know a thing or two about keepin’ ’em in line. So, if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ an indoor pet fence, just remember what this old lady told ya. Get the right size, get somethin’ sturdy, and most importantly, keep your furry friend safe. You won’t be sorry if you do that. I guarantee!
