Okay, so I wanted to talk about my recent project – painting my interior doors white. I have to say, I wasn’t sure at first, but now I’m totally loving it.
First off, I gathered all my stuff. I got some good quality white paint, primer, brushes, rollers, drop cloths, and painter’s tape. I really didn’t want to mess up my floors, so I was pretty serious about the drop cloths.
Prepping the Doors
Then came the not-so-fun part – prepping. I took all the doors off their hinges. This was a bit of a hassle, but it’s way easier to paint them flat. I laid them out in my garage on some sawhorses.

- I removed all the doorknobs and hardware.
- Next, I gave each door a good sanding. I just wanted to make sure the paint would stick well.
- After sanding, I wiped them all down with a damp cloth to get rid of any dust.
Priming and Painting
Priming was the next step. I applied a thin coat of primer to each door. I waited for it to dry completely. This was important for getting a nice, even finish with the white paint. I read somewhere that white doors can sometimes look a bit dull without primer, so I made sure not to skip this step.
Once the primer was dry, I started painting. I used a brush for the edges and the detailed parts and a roller for the flat surfaces. I applied two coats of white paint, waiting for each coat to dry before applying the next. The key here was patience. I wanted a smooth, streak-free finish, so I took my time.
Putting It All Back Together
After the paint was completely dry, I put all the hardware back on and rehung the doors. And wow, what a difference! The white doors really brightened up my home. They make the whole place feel more open and airy.
I think white doors are a great choice. They go with pretty much any decor style. They are simple, but they make a big impact. I was a little worried they might be boring, but they’re not at all. They just give this clean, fresh look.
So, that’s my story about painting my interior doors white. It was a bit of work, but totally worth it. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, I say go for it! Just remember to prep properly and be patient with the painting process. You will be amazed at how different your home can look with just a few coats of white paint.
