Okay, so today I wanna talk about building a knowledge base with Shelly stuff. You know, Shelly, those little gadgets that make your home smart? Yeah, those. I’ve been tinkering with them for a while now, and I figured it’s time to put all that know-how in one place.
First off, I started poking around the internet, looking for what others have done. I found this cool guide on setting up Shelly lights, both the hardwired and wireless ones. It’s pretty neat, you can even control your heat pump with them! Then I stumbled upon some more advanced stuff, like webhooks and scripting. I was like, “Whoa, this is getting serious!”
So, I rolled up my sleeves and dove in. I grabbed a bunch of my Shelly devices – some relays, a power meter, even that cute little button thingy. I wanted to see how they all play together.

I started with the basics. You know, getting them connected to my Wi-Fi, setting them up in the Shelly app, and giving them names that make sense. Like, “Kitchen Lights” instead of “Shelly-12345.” Trust me, it makes life easier.
Then I got a bit braver and started playing with scenes. I set up this one scene where the lights turn on automatically at sunset. Pretty basic, but it felt like magic the first time it worked! I’m thinking of adding more sensors later, maybe to trigger things based on temperature or humidity.
Here’s what I did next
- Checked out some example projects from other Shelly users. Some folks are doing crazy stuff with these things!
- Learned about scripting. Apparently, you can write little programs to make your Shellys do even more cool stuff. I haven’t gotten too deep into that yet, but it’s on my list.
- Found a tool called “Shelly Device Finder”. It helps you find your Shelly devices on the network. Useful when you have a bunch of them like me.
The Shelly app is also pretty handy. I can control all my devices from there, turn things on and off, dim the lights, even check the power consumption. It’s like having a little control panel for my whole house.
Oh, and I found out about these “Star Power” things. It’s like a special ability for each Shelly device. For example, the Shell Shock Star Power lets you slow down Brawlers that are trying to escape. Sounds like a game thing. I’m not sure if it applies to my lights, but it’s cool to know.
So yeah, that’s my journey so far with building a knowledge base around Shelly. I’m still learning new things every day, and I’m excited to see what else I can do with these little gadgets. I’ll keep you all posted on my progress. Maybe I’ll even start a little blog or something to share my experiments. Stay tuned!
