Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to bring some serious nature vibes indoors, you know? Like, really make a statement. I’m talking about biggest indoor trees! I did some digging around to find out what kind of trees would actually survive and, like, not die inside my house.
First, I looked up some ideas online. It was a mess of stuff, really. But I found some names that kept popping up. Weeping Fig, Fiddle Leaf Fig, Rubber Plant – sounds like a jungle already, right? There were also things like Norfolk Island Pine, and apparently, even some palms and citrus trees can grow pretty big indoors.
- Weeping Fig (Ficus benjamina)
- Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrata)
- Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica)
- Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla)
- Various palms and citrus trees
Then I started thinking, what do I even like? There are those Monsteras, which look really cool with their big, split leaves. Elephant Ear plants are pretty wild too. Oh, and I saw something called a Calathea Orbifolia – that thing has huge, round leaves! But there is also the Banana plants, which look really cool as well!

I started to check out some online stores. There are many sellers that will sell you a ton of options like, Bonsai, Orchid, Herbs, and many other types of trees.
I realized it’s not just about picking a tree that looks cool. I gotta make sure I have enough space, first of all. Then I started to consider the lighting situation. Some trees need a ton of light, others, not so much.
So, I measured out the space where I wanted to put the tree. It’s a decent corner in my living room that gets a good amount of indirect sunlight. I think that will be enough. Then, I narrowed down my choices based on what I thought would fit and also what I could realistically take care of. I don’t want to kill a giant tree, that’s just bad karma, you know?
After all that, I finally decided to go with a Fiddle Leaf Fig. They’re a bit finicky, from what I’ve read, but I’m determined to make it work. I ordered a medium-sized one from a local nursery – didn’t want to start with a baby, but also didn’t want to overwhelm myself.
It arrived a few days later, and I carefully put it in its new home, which I bought beforehand. I gave it some water and just kind of stared at it for a while, hoping I didn’t just make a huge mistake. Now, it’s been a few weeks, and it seems to be doing okay! A few leaves dropped, but that’s normal, I guess. It is starting to grow little by little, it is so cool! I’m still learning about the best way to water it and all that, but I’m feeling pretty good about my big indoor tree adventure so far!
I have started to look at other plants as well to add to my collection. I am thinking about purchasing a Banana plant and maybe even a small palm tree. I need to find a new pot and corner in my house for the new plants to live. I think that is a problem for another day. I will keep you guys updated!
